Basket vendor

A vendor is someone who sells something. In most Asian countries you can see many vendors in the streets. Some set up stalls and sell to people who pass, just like a little shop on the side of the road. Some vendors walk carrying whatever it is they are selling.

This vendor has a motorbike with a sidecar. He has all different kinds of baskets that he sells to people. The baskets are used for many different purposes.

In this picture you can hardly see the vendor. The men wearing orange vests are motorcycle-taxi drivers. If you take a bus home it stops along the main road. Perhaps you live a long way from the main road and it is too far to walk. You can take a motorcycle taxi. They will drive you to your home.

I don't know what kind of baskets the motorcycle-taxi drivers bought but they look very interested in these baskets.

PS. At the moment I live just around the corner from this spot.

Another cool trike

In Thailand they have three-wheel taxis called tuk-tuks. In India they have them too, well they are very similar to the ones in Thailand. In India they are called auto rickshaws or autos. I have been riding in these while I am in India. There is a lot of traffic in many Indian cities and these little guys can zip into spaces where cars don't fit. But the traffic fumes are very bad. Sometimes I cover my face with my hat so I don't have to breathe the fumes.

Cool trike

Here in Thailand there are many different types of transport that we don't get in Australia. There are motorbikes that are taxis. There are tricycles that are taxis. If they don't have a motor they are called samlors. In Thai language 'sam' means 'three' and 'lor' means 'wheels'. A tricycle with a motor is called a tuk-tuk.

This one is a tuk-tuk but it's different from most tuk-tuks because it has the back of a samlor joined to the front of a motorbike.

Cool, hey?
